Collective Loom (2018) is a space-filling spiral, which can be reduced to a flat circle on the floor. The stretch textile material has been processed into a 300 meters long construction. The installation is animated by performers turning their way trough the fabric, efficient and organically. This work is about the experience of togetherness, which does not happen without friction.

Collective Loom is a continuation of Looming (2016). Whereas Loomingexplores personal space in relation to the surrounding, Collective Loom represents the shared space of a group. The sculpture forms the connection for the interaction, whereas spectators choose their position in space freely.

The title of this work refers literally to a loom. As if the interaction between the performers is woven into the fabric. The stretching material enables a dialogue of fluid motions.

The sculpture evokes associations of a moving sea, in which spaces appear and disappear. Emerging opportunities are seized or omittedby the performers.

The circular shape is amongst the oldest forms in which people meet and connect: from circle meetings to ancient folk dances. The rhythmic repetitive music is inspired by natural processes like the seasons and carries the audience into a wordless stream.

The music is composed by Mink Steekelenburg (Winterdagen).

Recycled material is used to make the sculpture.

Collective Loom has been shown at 'Fringe Festival 2018', in a former church De Dokzaal.
