Looming is a movable sculpture of circling forms. The stretching textile material is processed in a lightweight construction. The person wearing the sculpture enters into a dialogue with the floating circles. The work investigates the scope of the human body and its effect on the surrounding space.

The loom is a moving construction, the cadence measured by the beat of weaving repeated patterns.

It’s like life: a flow of change, but there is always cohesion. Think of circular shapes and repetitions in nature; the changing seasons or the rhythm of day and night.

The work investigates how we can find a correlation between movement and stillness. It’s also a reaction to our society, ever-changing at a rapid pace.

In the movement research of the wearer, the sculpture folds into the most beautiful shapes. Organically developing from a circle into a multi-layered spiral.

The imagery is poetic: a flower unfolding its petals, the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly,

the peacock’s mating ritual.

The music composition is made by Mink Steekelenburg (Winterdagen).
Recycled material is used for the sculpture.
