Deform Reflect (2017) is a development of the work Deform (2015). It is a particularly long or wide sculpture made of flexible material. The combination of hard (plastic) and stretching (textile) provides a movable space, in which changing forms can be created. A performer brings the slow sculpture, with its soft cracking blinds, to life.
The movement is thoughtful, slow, or even comes to a standstill. The reflective material merges with its environment. The gel-like surface is like a computer-controlled animation in which pixels seem to be missing. The object attracts the attention of the public and integrates into its environment through a fine play of light patterns. There is a continuous change in every following moment.
Together with live harp music, it is a magnetizing experience that influences the perception of time.
The work is made as a reflection on the present. How can we merge our different experiences, reflect on them and initiate new movements? A process that the performer goes through during the performance. The visual language is abstract, allowing the viewer to intuitively encounter and associate.
The music is composed live by Rosalie Wammes (harp).
Material: textile and recycled PVC. The work originated in 2017 and is further developed between 2019-2021.
It is a performance work and also exists as video work, photo work, and drawings.
